Print Page

Your problem

You have PDF documents that don't have trim and bleed marks and you need proper printer marks for the rest of your workflow.
Download 'No_printermarks.pdf' for an example PDF file that illustrates the problem.

Our solution

PitStop Professional is able to place objects near a page box in a PDF file. This feature is a perfect fit to add trim and bleed marks to a PDF file that has the correct page boxes.

 1. Action Lists

Default installed in the Enfocus Action List database, there are several Action Lists that add a generic set of trim marks, registration marks and color bars to your PDf file. These Action Lists are all part of the group 'Page Boxes and Printer marks'.
We'll use the Action List 'Add Crop Marks' for this example.

Here are the steps to set this up:

  • Go to Plug-ins > Enfocus PitStop Professional > Show Enfocus Action List panel

  • Expand the default Action List database

  • Expand the group Page Boxes and Printer Marks

  • Select the Action List "Add Crop Marks"

  • Set the 'Run on' & 'Show result' options

  • Hit the run button

The crop (trim) marks are now set to the existing trim box.

To add bleed box we'll slightly change the Action List we have just used.

Here are the steps to set this up:

  • Select the Default Action List Database

  • Select the Default Action List "Add Crop Marks"

  • Go to Manage > Duplicate

  • Click 'YES' on the message that tells you the duplicate will be saved in the Local Action List Database

  • Select the duplicate Action List

  • Go to Manage > Edit

  • Provide a new name and description

  • Select the first 'Add Line' action

  • In the properties (right side of the panel) select the bleed box instead of the trim box in the last drop down list

  • Perform the previous action for all 'Add line' actions

  • Click OK

  • Run the Action List

Both Action Lists can now be combined in an Enfocus QuickRun (see movie - One Click PDF Profiels and Action Lists) to be performed in one click.

Download the Action List 'Add bleed marks' HERE.

Automation

When you create an Action List to solve this problem, you can use that Action List in PitStop Server so that all PDF documents dropped in a watched folder are automatically picked up and fixed.
