Phoenix

A product of:

Phoenix is an imposition and planning solution designed for a range of work including packaging, labels, cards, tags, wide-format, and commercial. It is equally powerful as a pure imposition system for creating print ready layouts, or exclusively as a planning tool to estimate and report the production costs involved with printing a set of orders. Its true aim however is to unite imposition and planning, creating a seamless workflow from initial quote all the way to RIP.

Phoenix is built from the ground up to cut cost. This is accomplished by generating fast/accurate estimates, reducing pre-press time, automating error-prone tasks, maximizing media usage, as well as reducing post-press complexity. A key advantage of Phoenix is it is designed to work well with both square-cut and irregular shape designs, enabling users to use the same tools across a variety of different work types.

Phoenix has an intuitive, modern design that runs on both Mac and Windows and comes in three editions:

  • Phoenix CAD is predominantly for traditional packaging printers who utilize CAD layouts to define the imposition and need to assign artwork to the empty dies. Tools like Autosnap for artwork-to-die alignment bring a new level of automation to this workflow.
  • Phoenix PDF allows users to build layouts directly from PDF, whether it be squarecut work using PDF boxes, or nested die-cut work using die lines defined in the PDF as spot colors or layers. When the layout is finished, a die layout can be exported as CAD or PDF for use in post-press.
  • Phoenix Pro combines all the features of Phoenix CAD and PDF into one powerful solution. It then adds more power with features such as Automatch for multi artwork to die match detection, Structural PDF for importing PDFs as CAD layouts, Varnish Export, and PDF layer control.

On top of the editions, three powerful ganging modules are available: Auto Impose generates ganged layouts with a single sheet. Auto Populate uses a predefined die layout, and assigns products to each die based on order numbers, and Auto Optimize takes ganging to the next level by searching across multiple sheet/press combinations for the most cost-effective layouts available.

All editions include cost and time estimation, accurate real-time PDF previews utilizing the Adobe PDF Library as well as an extensive, automated marks system featuring 17 different customizable mark types supporting dynamic ink replacement, positional rules, and 200+ text keywords. Highlights include barcodes, camera marks, ink eaters, bearer bars, eyelet marks, and much more.

Configurators

Phoenix

Available for Phoenix 5.0 and above.

Utilizes Phoenix Plan tool to find optimal ganged layouts. No more than one Phoenix Plan Flow Element is supported per Flow.

What does the configurator do?

The Phoenix Plan Configurator automates a key bottleneck affecting printers everywhere: estimating and imposing incoming orders to minimize press and media costs.  It does this by processing up to hundreds of orders and finding the most cost effective ganged layouts at unprecedented speeds for both nested and square cut work.

The Configurator works by collecting individual orders coming in along with their associated quantities, stock, grain, spacing, etc.  From there, everything is sent over to Phoenix which goes to work searching millions of combinations across available presses and stocks to find the best multi-form jobs.  Output options include imposed PDF, JDF, Phoenix jobs, and PDF or XML-based reports.

What are the benefits for the user?

  • Greatly reduces prepress and estimating time by providing a lights out automation planning and imposition solution
  • Using the powerful Phoenix Plan tool, which searches millions of combinations in minutes, more cost effective layouts can be found
  • Can be used for square cut or nested work, allowing users ultimate flexibility to plan and impose any type of work
  • Automates error-prone tasks, thus reducing mistakes
  • Maximizes media usage
  • Searches across available presses and stocks finding the most cost effective combination
